FAQs
Semi Permanent makeup
Semi permanent makeup is an advanced form of tattooing, however we do not infuse the pigments, as deeply into the skin, so the results we achieve do not have the permanency of a conventional tattoo. We also use pigment and not ink.
The specialised techniques used for semi permanent makeup are also referred to as permanent cosmetics, permanent makeup, micropigmentation and cosmetic tattooing. Microblading is also referred to as semi-permanent makeup however this is a hair stroke technique using a hand held tool. Rosita uses a digital machine for all permanent makeup Hairstroke and Ombre Eyebrows, Eyeliner and Lip Blush.
Ombré Powdered Brows is the newest shading technique. This method creates pixilated dots to mimic powder filled brows with no harsh front or outline. This shadow technique is minimally invasive, lasts longer and can be buildable from light to dark. Microblading is creating 3D hair like strokes using microfine needles with a hand held tool. Its not suitable for all skin types where as Ombre brows are.
Ombre Brows look very bold and defined in shape immediately after treatment. The following day the colour will look darker until you go through the healing period over the next 7-10days as they lighten. The brows will start to dry and flake and begin to look patchy and faded in areas. Once fully healed the brows will soften in shape and colour. You loose 30-50% of initial pigment and you will be left with a beautiful powdered eyebrow with fluffy soft fronts. The second top up session 4-6weeks later layers in more pigment if needed to complete the treatment.
If you’re over 18 and use cosmetics it’s likely you’ll benefit from the liberating pluses of wearing semi permanent makeup.
Feeling flawless, looking younger and saving time.
Semi permanent makeup can enhance your features with a soft natural look or be applied with the purpose of replacing makeup.
It’s a convenient alternative if you have allergies to conventional makeup or you’re sporty and want to look your best without worrying about your makeup smudging or sweating off.
It’s a must-have if your vision is poor or you have difficulty applying cosmetics due to dexterity related conditions – and of course it’s great if you’ve got a busy lifestyle and don’t have time to spend applying and refreshing makeup throughout the day and evening
We often get asked the question ‘is semi permanent makeup painful?’ Most of our clients tell us no – ‘a bit uncomfortable yes, but not painful’.
During your treatment to maximise your comfort, we’ll use effective numbing agents prior to your treatment and during, and state-of-the-art machine – designed to cause minimal skin trauma and the least discomfort too.
Absolutely. Following a code-of-practice that ensures your semi permanent makeup not only looks good – it’s completely safe as well.
We follow rigorous sterilisation and disinfection guidelines and like medical devices, our micro-pigmentation equipment is safe by design against cross-contamination.
We use sterile, CE class needles and LiPigments, which meet the highest safety and non-toxicity standards – and we perform test patching too.
It is long lasting makeup that stays on for about a year and a half to two years, sometimes 3 years. It depends on the area of treatment, your skin type, general health, your lifestyle, the colours used during pigmentation, technique, sun exposure, topical cosmetics used on the skin and pigmented area. It is considered permanent because the pigment is deposited into the upper reticular part of the dermal layer of the skin and cannot be washed off. Periodic maintenance is required since pigment will fade with time. Annual touch up is a good opportunity to reevaluate design. You can discuss any colour or shape changes with your technician.
By listening closely and creating a template enhancement in conventional makeup prior to creating your enhancement, we make sure you’ll get the precise result you expect. Your experience will be bespoke and collaborative. Rosita has performed countless successful treatments with with clients who love their result! Even though the procedure is considered long lasting, don’t forget you have the flexibility of changing the colour and the shape to some extent
Semi permanent makeup looks great in black and Asian skin. However, as with conventional makeup muted-natural colours will not be as visible, especially in the case of lips – so we recommend that either vibrant, or darker shades be used to best showcase your enhancement and your complexion.
The procedure takes about 2 hours to 3 hours. Depends on what area you choose. It starts with a consultation to check if you are a good candidate for this procedure and going through medical history. The process includes, photographing, pre-drawing, measuring and pigment application. In the end, the technician will explain post care and take final pictures. Then at least one or more follow up visits to evaluate healed colour and shape is required.
You may experience minor swelling and redness on the day of your procedure. You may experience some minor redness and skin peeling (scabbing) during the first week. The colour will look darker and shape might be sharp. After about a week, the colour and edges will soften. While healing the treated area will gently exfoliate and you will lose some colour. This is a normal process. The final result will be visible after 3-4 weeks when pigment will stabilise in the skin. OUTER HEALING completes in about 3-6 days for eyes, 7-10 days for eyebrows and lips. Inner skin healing completes in 1-2 months.
Permanent makeup does not harm your hairs in any way. The pigment should go only under the upper layer of your skin, whereas your hair follicles are located much deeper.
Semi permanent makeup is a long-lasting makeup. It doesn’t stay forever like a regular tattoo and it’s not so deep in the skin as a regular tattoo. The pigment is deposited only into the first layer of the skin (Epidermis). Pigments for semi-permanent makeup are tested in the laboratory by doctors and specialists to make sure they are completely safe. Pigment fades over time, because of the skin natural exfoliation process. To keep the colour fresh a touch up is recommended usually after one to two years.
There is a large pigment range for all skin tones/hair colour. From very fair very light blonde to dark skin and darkest of brown/black. We choose colours to match every clients natural skin and hair tone. We always suggest going with a lighter colour and thinner shape on your first session, we can make them darker and wider if you wish at your touch up visit. This gives you the opportunity to get used to your new brows/eyeliner/lip blush.
We match colours for blondes, brunettes, or redheads and clients with different skin tones. Your wishes and needs are important and will all be discussed in your consultation and through out your treatment. We will advise what is best for you. We will choose the right colour and shape for you. Please have realistic expectations. The choice is made based on the shape of your face. We will advise the best look. We will use pencil to draw on your skin until the desired shape is achieved. We will measure to keep symmetry. After your acceptance and any changes you may want, we will start the procedure, but not until you are completely satisfied with the shape.
Yes, you can but please make sure to keep the treated area dry and clean. Please don’t touch with dirty hands to avoid infections. Avoid environments that would cause dirt or germs to contact area while healing. Please follow full aftercare given.
Please consult with the technician, it depends on colour and shape that you currently have and how long ago you had the last procedure. If the area is overly saturated with pigment. In some cases like a very old tattoo that has been performed badly, you might need removal. Corrections are possible but this must be decided and discussed face to face with the technician to assess the area.
Do not dye or curl lashes for 2 weeks prior. If you have the individual glued on eyelash extensions, don’t bother going for your next touch up knowing you have an eyeliner or brow procedure coming up. The numbing creams, many eye washes, and skin wipes during the procedure break down the glue and they fall off. The lash extensions can be hard to work around. You can have the lash extensions reapplied after you heal which is about two weeks.
Botox appointments should be timed two weeks after the semi-permanent procedure, especially when it comes to eyebrows, to make sure we design your brows in the correct place. Lip fillers should be done at least 3/4 weeks after having Lip Blush tattoo.
Your treated area might look patchy throughout the healing process. Not all parts of the scabs will fall off at the same time which is why you get a patchy and uneven appearance. It is a NORMAL part of the whole process. Until you have your 2nd top up session to balance out the colour and shape. Dont panic.
It is normal for your treated area to fade. Most people loose around 30-50% after their first session. It is vital you follow your aftercare given, and not pick their scabs off. Those that do not follow the aftercare instructions properly will have considerably more fading which means the second touch-up will take much longer or you might need more visits.
Sunbathing is not recommended before the procedure since skin gets overly dry and changes colour. You should avoid the sun for about up to 3 weeks after the procedure. Protect the treated area from any direct UV rays until it is fully healed. Otherwise, there is a risk of hyperpigmentation. Once the area has healed it is very important you use spf50 over the eyebrows/lips to pro long your pigment retention and avoid the pigment lightening.
We never shave the eyebrows before the procedure. We perfect the eyebrow shape you have thats a bespoke shape to you, then clean all the stray unwanted hairs outside of our designed eyebrow shape.
Lips are a very vascular and sensitive part of our face. Swelling is visible during and after the procedure, every client reacts differently. Some will have alot of swelling but it subsides within a few hours, and others have very minimal swelling. The technique and needles we use cause minimal trauma to the skin and therefore promotes better healing and great end results.
Semi-Permanent Makeup is a layering process. After your first session you will go through your healing period of 7-10days and once the skin is fully healed from the outside and within, your second session top up is carried out 4-6weeks after initial appointment for eyebrows and eyeliner and 6-8 weeks for lips. More pigment will be layered into the skin and you will go through the same healing period until the skin is fully healed, and in most cases after 2 treatments your treatment is complete. Some may need a possible 3rd session.
